The West Virginia Power baseball team is a Class-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The baseball team plays in the Northern Division of the Southern Atlantic League. Games are an excellent opportunity to see the All-Stars of tomorrow such as former Power player 2007 NL Rookie of the Year, three-time MLB All Star and current National League home run hitter Ryan Braun! The fun doesn’t stop there . . . at the Fun Zone, kids can play all day long in the bounce house, race through the obstacle course, run against the pull of a bungee cord, climb up the giant slide and then sail down the other side or swing for the fence in the inflatable batting station for only $5! When you get hungry, head over to the Power Alley Grill for a delicious meal. What’s better than a full feature sports bar inside a ballpark? How about sitting down with a full menu and watching all of the action on the field? Or belly up to the bar for some suds with buds.
Making a Weekend of It? Check out the Great Charleston WV Hotel Options
When the team is in town for a weekend series of games, you could make a min-vacation out of the games! You should book a place to stay at Mardi Gras Casino & Resort in one of the beautiful rooms! The hotel opened last August and is stunning. You’ll be pampered and pumped up for the great games you’ll see at the Appalachian Power Park! After you enjoy the delicious cooked-to-order breakfast at the Resort, you can head to downtown Charleston and check out the Capitol Market before going to the game. The Capitol Market features gourmet shopping from wine and cheese to fresh produce and flowers. From the Capitol Market, it’s only a three-block stroll to the Appalachian Power Park to watch the game.
Looking for Other Charleston Attractions Nearby?
After the game, head down the road to another of the top Charleston-area attractions: Mardi Gras Casino! You can play games ranging from slots to poker. No need to let the baseball teams have all of the fun – you’ll have a great time trying out the newest addition to the gaming floor: Mini Baccarat. Or if racing is more your style, head over to the simulcast area and place a bet on races taking place both here and all over the country. Live greyhound racing takes place Wednesday – Monday at 7:30 p.m. and a special matinee race takes place on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
