Learn to Play Texas Hold 'em

Have fun learning to play one of the classic poker games—Texas Hold 'em. The more you play, the more you'll understand the nature and beat of the game. The object of the game is to create the best 5–card poker hand using any combination of 7 cards. Before any cards are dealt the player sitting next to the dealer button places a small "blind" bet whereas the person sitting directly to the left of that person places a large blind bet.

Here are a few simple rules to follow when playing Texas Hold 'em:

  • Every player receives 7 cards—2 down and 5 community cards
  • The dealer deals 2 face down cards to each person, starting with the small blind bet player
  • Betting begins, starting first with the small blind bet player
  • The 3rd, 4th and 5th cards are dealt face up, which is called the Flop, followed by a betting round.
  • The 6th card is turned face up (the Turn) followed by betting
  • The 7th card is revealed, which is referred to as the River
  • Final bets are placed

Mix Up Your Game with 7 Card Stud

7 Card Stud is another not to be missed game in the Big Easy Poker Room. The object of 7 Card Stud is to create the best hand of 5 cards using 7. Grab a drink and a side of nachos and learn how to play this poker game that includes a big showdown at the end:

  • All players ante $1
  • Each player receives 7 cards—4 face up, 3 face down
  • The first 2 cards are dealt face down with the 3rd card being dealt face up
  • The player with the lowest card starts the betting. They can bet from $1 to $5.
  • The 4th card is dealt face up, followed by another round of betting
  • The 5th card is dealt face up…more betting occurs
  • The 6th and 7th cards are dealt, face up with betting occurring after each dealt card
  • Showdown! Each player will turn their remaining face down cards over and the dealer will announce "all hands show" and declare a winner
